*burner nostalgia*

Thursday, July 31st, 2008

I just saw the list of theme camp placements for this year. I am filled with a vague yearning, and if it’s at all possible and my lovely partner is at all willing, I’m wondering if we might make it over next year [alas, I know it is most likely not to be]. Still, , have an ace time, and have a drink at Abstininthe for me. It’s less than a month away now! Which means Melting Man is equally close. YAY! :)

We can has Lonely Planet!

Tuesday, July 29th, 2008

The Lonely Planet doco crew that filmed us a couple of months back @ The LockWorks have just put up the vid on the lonelyplanet.tv website - check it out!

We’re on just a little after halfway through, after two other pretty random segments. I think we came across rather well, and is in there for a second too - a random chance visit but you’d never know it by his regular appearances in Melbs!

We also have another doco crew interested in us for later on in the year, but I won’t say anything more about that in case it doesn’t happen ;)

Corset Squee!

Friday, July 25th, 2008

So, we’ve gradually been sliding into stocking corsets @ The Lockworks. We started with Asylum7, steampunky style, then as of a bit less than a month ago Dolly Q came on board, and we were amazed at the response to her awesome stuff. So much so that I realised there’s almost no way she’d be able to keep up with the demand, so I started looking into other suppliers to supplement her fantastic work. Bear in mind, I haven’t bought a corset in years, 10 years to be exact, as I’d started making corsets when I started Wildilocks - but the hair rapidly took over and there wasn’t the time any more.

The one and only corset I’ve bought was from Axfords in Brighton - I went to their factory and bought it in person, and I still have it - still in very good nick, too! This is a company that has been in business since 1880. Their styles are simple, classic and genuinely period.

So, we got our first Axfords order today. Colour me filled with squee when I tried this delightful underbust on:

I love the look of this corset - it’s incredibly comfortable and feels *so* much better than the usual hourglass overbust which is pretty much all I have otherwise! I am so glad I’ve lost enough weight to feel comfy in a corset again too - not that I had to lose weight, but because of the health stuff, everything felt very uncomfortable belly-wards.

*heart heart squee* I shall be wearing it out tomorrow night to Black Widows. Who shall be joining us? [other than miss who shall be with us for a brief 2 day sojourn, and who I believe are already planning to head down? :)

More pics under the cut!

Pandemic!

Monday, July 21st, 2008

I don’t like many games, this one was fun to play in the background of other things. Took me many tries to wipe out humanity, but I finally did it, woo!

Pandemic II.

Political Kiwis!

Sunday, July 20th, 2008

So, whaddaya think of this then [which I saw mentioned on worldchanging.com?] Seems a bit naff to me, but then I’m allergic to politics, advertising and too many primary colours in icons.

Kinda makes me want to start my own political party when I move there though, given the almost infinite choice of parties running, it looks it can’t be that hard to get started - and given the kinds of awesome groundswell the internet allows for political stuff, eg this, then I’m sure it wouldn’t be impossible to get somewhere with it!

Sociability….

Sunday, July 13th, 2008

Also, I had a fun night last night. Got to meet Mel’s new lad, , and he seems a capital fellow. Had dinner, drinks, then went out to Blitz where rocked out and kept me dancing for about 3/4 of her set, and many lovely folks were about. I feel in some ways I’ve become rather less social, but I don’t feel deprived, for I has a and he makes me happy every single day.

I love this wintry weather and snuggling up in bed on Sundays. Sundays rule.

WHIRRRRRRRR = nom!

I has a new blender! Lookie:

Vortex hand crank blender [clicken to embiggen]

If you look carefully, you’ll notice there is no cord. That’s not because it’s not visible: it’s because there isn’t one! This is a Vortex Hand-Crank blender, which requires no electrickery to function. I’d really like a pedal-powered blender, but they’re not so easy to buy off-the-shelf. I was slightly concerned it may be a bit of a toy blender, but when it arrived, I was pleasantly impressed with its sturdiness. I’ve read that the one weak point is the clamp where it is attached to your bench, and am hoping they’ve improved the material of that since the reviews I read, but even so, I’m impressed with the heft and feel of indestructibleness. It’s also made of shiny and stainless steel.

So, I took it for a test drive earlier. I don’t have any prep pics, but this is the result:

Nom banana smooothie

Nom! I was impressed at how well it blended, and how fast, definitely comparable to an electric blender. It apparently crushes ice fine too, though I haven’t tested that yet. It’s pretty noisy [Jeremy was wailing "doooooom!"] but then so are most electric blenders, and The Aerie is pretty small so everything sounds loud.

I got the blender from here but they were a bit slow to ship, even with the requested Courier delivery, so if I were buying again I’d probably try elsewhere.

Anyone have any good smoothie recipes to share? I am a big mango smoothie fan so those will be on the menu soon, though I think I will continue to enjoy my standard breakfast of fruit salad for the time being - I likes me fruit salad. Found a reasonably good site full of smoothie recipes here: http://www.flowercarole.com/ [bit too full of advertising though].

Actually, that makes me wonder something - has anyone else noticed top Google results increasingly including a lot of sites listed which have Google Adwords? Is it possible/likely/a conspiracy that Google has an algorithm in there which is ranking sites with Adwords higher than sites without o_O? Cos when I tried Yahoo to compare, I got very different results - and no Adwords sites….

I also recently bought me a new secondhand IBM X40 laptop, which is from the secondhand laptop shop down on the corner of Elizabeth and Lonsdale. $400 for something that actually works better than my stupid Acer whose power cord is now dying and I really don’t want to keep plonking down $150 a pop to fix every 6 months, thankyewverymuch, is smaller and lighter and has a 3 hour battery. It just doesn’t have a touchpad, which is a bit of a step backwards, but I’m coping with the buttony thing fairly well and can get a mouse if I really want. *edit* oh lookie, I found this. I hope it works well!

Dinner & Dance performance next weekend?

Saturday, July 12th, 2008

Hey peeps, Kat is performing at the Omeda [Organisation of Middle Eastern Dance in Australia] Festival next weekend, and the opening night Gala thang is on next Friday, and was wondering if anyone would like to join me & Jeremy in heading down? It’s at the Aegean Greek Restaurant, 19 Brunswick St Fitzroy, and costs $45 for a 3 course meal + tea & coffee, plus show of many exotic dance styles! I have never seen Kat perform before and it seems like a good opportunity. Doors open 7, meals served from 7.30, and show starts at 8pm. If anyone would like to join us we need to book our table tomorrow morning, so let me know asap!

The info for the whole festival is here: http://www.omeda.org.au/files/2008medfestival.pdf
