Quote of the Week: Year 1802

‘I believe that banking institutions are more dangerous to our liberties
than standing armies. If the American people ever allow private banks to
control the issue of their currency, first by inflation, then by deflation,
the banks and corporations that will grow up around the banks will deprive
the people of all property until their children wake-up homeless on the
continent their fathers conquered.’

Thomas Jefferson 1802

Hells yes. *shakes fist* interestingly I was told by the lady @ Charlie Weaver today about a great industry association that can save like, 90% of my eftpos etc fees - [info]miaowkytten this would totally apply to you too, if you are interested let me know and I can pass on info! less the banks get the better, they’ve been growing too fat for too long, now is their time to diiiiiie.

In other news, I made the most yummy dinner tonight, gluten free brown rice penne, organic steak mince, organic basil & garlic pasta sauce, organic cherry tomatoes, organic spinach, organic cheese and a couple of glasses of organic rose from a really cute little bottle shop up on Lygon St in East Brunswick. Doing ticket & flyer runs has been tiring but good and I’ve got to *properly* exercise my eBike - I’ve been tuckered out easily though after being horribly sick [suspect food poisoning from dodgy Vietnamese restaurant] on Monday and for half of Tuesday was very weak too. My lips are also now horridly chapped from the wind. But I got to ride around Albert Park lake! It was pretty.

Also, Michael Pollan has written another food treatise. If you haven’t read any of his writings yet, I highly recommend this one, well… along with all the others :) It gets a little preachy, but if you don’t already know this stuff, you should.h

Squiggly-woo.

squiggly-woo

It’s been a sociable kinda week! Saw The Duchess on Monday night [quite good]. Then Fringe-Lympics on Wednesday was absolutely hilarious, and as expected totally silly. By divine providence we managed to have an exact table of 8, and had some mad singing skillz from [info]__lobotomy__, some mad dancing skillz from ms [info]monsterlove, and everyone on the table contributed wonderfully to our doozy of a team mascot - the Booby-Dalek. Anyone take any photos? I totally didn’t even get my camera out, I was too busy laughing. Apparently shenanigans continued late into the evening at ms [info]sebastianne’s place, on a school night no less! Me being an old lady, I headed home straight after the gig ;P

Covenant et al last night were pretty neat - but Destroid/Haujobb [Daniel Myer] totally stole the show. Seriously, that one track where he plays the drums totally pwned everything else on the bill. Perth folks, make sure you don’t show up late! I am thinking Diary of Dreams will go down well with the kiddies in Perth, they were not really my thing but I can really see them appealing to the younger particularly Perth crowd.

In other news, kitteh is still unnamed [we quite like Clara, but it's not quite right for her, she's too bouncy], and more adorable every day. She LOVES playing fetch. How common is that in cats? We have this little catnip toy that she can’t get enough of, just keeps bringing it back to the bed, we throw it, she runs to get it and brings it right back, I can just keep throwing it ad infinutum! She’s also just worked out how to open the bathroom door on her own, too. Clever kitty!

Okay, now to jump on the latest meme-bandwagon, c/o [info]tatjna:

If you read this, if your eyes are passing over this right now (even if we don’t speak often or ever) please post a comment with a completely made up, fictional memory of you and me.

It can be anything you want - good or bad - but it has to be fake, mmk?

Silliness - Fringe-Lympics, anyone?

September 30th, 2008
silliness-fringe-lympics-anyone

So, it looks like we’ll be getting quite a bit o’ Fringe in this year. On Sunday at the Festival Club @ North Melbourne Town Hall we caught Ollie Olsen & friends Fading Fires doing a pretty impressive set accompanying some interesting surrealist movies including murderous women with keys that turned into knives, and mysterious flocks of bowler hats … and a half hour montage of gulf war oil fire footage, which was fascinating and terrifically saddening. The music was quite good, very experimental, evocative. Well worth heading down - and even better, it was free!

There is more neat Fringe stuff coming up - we’re checking out the Tenth Stage tomorrow night @ the Toff, and there’s a couple of things we kinda wanna maybe see, such as Danceathon 6000 on Friday night [free] and possibly more amusingly, we rather fancy the idea of Fringe-Lympics hosted by Dave Callan [also free] - if anyone is game to get a team together, perhaps? It could be amusing indeed. Or embarrassing. Or stupid. But I like Dave Callan, he’s funneh :)

Here’s the blurb:

Fringe-lympics - Hosted By Dave Callan

Pub Trivia On Steroids

Be a part of the inaugural Fringe-lympics! Pub trivia, group games, karaoke, double-dare, physical challenge, primal scream therapy and the Commodore 64 meets the world’s dumbest art competition.

Bring a team of friends or just come along for the fun.

Art is a race. Let’s cheat.

Anyone game for this? It’s next Wednesday 8th October.

Kitteh!

So, we have a new member of the family, as of Wednesday - it’s taken til today for me to have enough time to try and catch up on LJ [still failing miserably really, too much to do!]. She came to us rather convolutedly, as Jeremy had a very elaborate plan on our anniversary to take me out to a breeder to pick out a lovely Scottish Fold, to my utter surprise, a little consternation [we have tiny apartment!] but of course, delight. But our anniversary was some months ago, I hear you cry! Well, yes - and this is not actually the kitteh I had picked out. Unfortunately, the chosen kitteh from that trip passed away after her vet visit to be fixed and readied for new owners, and it took some time for the breeders to be able to offer us another kitteh - this being our new darling, a nine month old black & white Scottish Fold. SQUEE! Been a bit difficult to get good photos and video of her, but I’ve tried :)

She’s been the most utterly charming and adorable cat I think I have known, and travelled home with us on the train with only a handful of petulant meows - a polar opposite to Snapey who would yowl and complain the entire trip in any car, as if we were stabbing him with needles or cutting off his paws - as I was bracing for that kind of noise, I was so relieved when she was super-quiet! She’s absolutely *tiny* - a perfect size for The Aerie, for those of you who’ve been here know just how small our apartment is! She’s precocious and loves to play and purr and snuggle, but also won’t bother you too much if you’re busy. She has the typical Scottish Fold folded ears that are *omgsquee* cute, and the most amazing big golden eyes. Really, a totally awesome cat and fitting in with our daily lives very very well, and a most wonderful anniversary present. We must have a kitteh-warming party soon, for those of you who are local and would like to meet her, just register your interest :). She likes visits, Jeremy’s brother was over yesterday and she was quite sociable.

We haven’t been able to come up with a name for her yet though. Any suggestions?

REQUEST FOR URGENT CONFIDENTIAL BUSINESS RELATIONSHIP

This was forwarded to me by a friend. It’s important to laugh, when the only other option is to cry.

From: Minister of the Treasury Paulson

Subject: REQUEST FOR URGENT CONFIDENTIAL BUSINESS RELATIONSHIP

Dear American:

I need to ask you to support an urgent secret business relationship
with a transfer of funds of great magnitude.

I am Ministry of the Treasury of the Republic of America. My country
has had crisis that has caused the need for large transfer of funds of
800 billion dollars US. If you would assist me in this transfer, it
would be most profitable to you.

I am working with Mr. Phil Gram, lobbyist for UBS, who will be my
replacement as Ministry of the Treasury in January. As a Senator, you
may know him as the leader of the American banking deregulation
movement in the 1990s. This transactin is 100% safe.

This is a matter of great urgency. We need a blank check. We need
the funds as quickly as possible. We cannot directly transfer these
funds in the names of our close friends because we are constantly
under surveillance. My family lawyer advised me that I should look for
a reliable and trustworthy person who will act as a next of kin so the
funds can be transferred.

Please reply with all of your bank account, IRA and college fund
account numbers and those of your children and grandchildren to
wallstreetbailout@treasury.gov so that we may transfer your commission
for this transaction. After I receive that information, I will
respond with detailed information about safeguards that will be used
to protect the funds.

Yours Faithfully
Minister of Treasury Paulson

Politics and murder

Here are some political commentary links.

Palin vs Clinton skit which is highly amusing, if you haven’t seen it yet, do!

Matt Damon has some good points about Palin, but I guess he’s mostly preaching to the converted…

but this veteran’s blog is probably one of the more interesting comments, and more useful to try and seed doubt amongst those who are less likely to be swayed.

My honest opinion? Palin was chosen for the abortion issue, and the Republicans are betting on there being a ton of rabid right-to-lifers planning on voting. They are, unfortunately, probably right, as we all know there are more religious nutters in the US than aaaanywhere else, they are loud and they are militant and they almost all think it’s a sin to kill your unborn childs. So yeah - even as the Democrats are having a field day taking the piss out of Palin [and it really is funny, how could it not be with such great material], my stomach sinks :(.

In completely non-political news, I state this is the best job ad EVAR, and ask my NZ pals if they’ve been to this place.
