So, everyone excited about the Large Hadron Collider being turned on today? If you’re worried about OMGENDOFTHAWORLD [though maybe not enough to send death threats]:

“The collisions will not start until later this month, and it will be next year before the particle accelerator is running at full power. “

So we all have a while yet, even with the thing turned on.

Cass’ Afterburn Report, 2008!

I’m writing this on my flight back to Melbourne from the US, as I do have a whole lot of time, and would like to write out as much as I can remember.

Firstly, people say your first Burn always rocks, and your second always sucks. I’d just like to say a big eff that: I had an awesome time, and I don’t regret going one bit. Sure, there were some ways I didn’t enjoy myself as much, but there were other ways I enjoyed myself much more.

Well, it’s on…

well-its-on

I bought my flights & Burning Man ticket about 6 hours ago. I fly out in 13 hours.

This may be the most spontaneous decision I have ever made. Driving up with [info]syncretin and then - who knows! I have no plans, no camp, and it will all just work out.

I really am quite insane!

Will check in when I arrive in SF hopefully, but if i don’t - see ya all in about 8 days.

Sorry to Melting man folks - I feel bad, but I just felt like I had to go. It’s Burning Man though, so you guys HAVE to understand!

Kiwiburn newsfeed finally created :)

kiwiburn-newsfeed-finally-created

Took a while, but finally got around to making a wordpress news blog for Kiwiburn and transposed everything that used to be on the “news” page. Now you need never miss KB news again: add the news feed to your feed reader [kiwiburn.com/news/?feed=rss2], or even easier, add the lj feed to your friends’ list: [info]kiwiburn_news.

So hard to update these days…

August 17th, 2008
so-hard-to-update-these-days

Really, it so is! I am amazed at how few posts I’ve made over the last few months. I have found it a huge strain even just keeping up reading my FL: doesn’t help that I keep so many newsfeeds on there, but I do feel it’s the best way to stay on top of general news as well as the news from all of you who are physical friends. So please know I am trying to read everything, but I know I’m sometimes missing or skimming: over the last 2 days I’ve been going back as far as 850 entries!! So that should give you some idea.

What have I been up to? Well, quick trip to Perth last week was good, lovely to catch up with a lot of people, though it was such a quick trip! This week has been unbelievably hectic, but I’m finally all caught up and I feel like I’m back behind the 8-Ball, so to speak.

Oh yes, can’t go any further without saying that VNV were awesome on Friday night and I hope the Perth gig is spectacular: good to hear there will be decent sound hired for it, hope the techs get it right because too many live gigs at Gilks have had sucky sound [and I mean, pretty much all of them because it's such a hard venue to get the mix right, big and echoey and weird shaped]. As always Ronan was hilarious and passionate and the music was great. Not such a good light show as last time from what I remember, I am expecting Perth to kick ass in that respect too - I am expecting that they will go away wondering why on earth they didn’t play Perth last tour!!! ;)

Have a wonderful time tonight my friends, and know that I am there with you in spirit, dancing my ass off to Chrome and tearing up during Beloved.

Tickets to Underworld [read:Summadayze] go on sale here Monday. No presales like there was for Perth this week, so I’m expecting it to sell out in record time, so will be buying first thing. Shame it’s at Sidney Myer [crappy venue] but Underworld will be amazing no matter where they play.

*burner nostalgia*

I just saw the list of theme camp placements for this year. I am filled with a vague yearning, and if it’s at all possible and my lovely partner is at all willing, I’m wondering if we might make it over next year [alas, I know it is most likely not to be]. Still, [info]ferrouswheel, have an ace time, and have a drink at Abstininthe for me. It’s less than a month away now! Which means Melting Man is equally close. YAY! :)

We can has Lonely Planet!

The Lonely Planet doco crew that filmed us a couple of months back @ The LockWorks have just put up the vid on the lonelyplanet.tv website - check it out!

We’re on just a little after halfway through, after two other pretty random segments. I think we came across rather well, and [info]_fnkymnky is in there for a second too - a random chance visit but you’d never know it by his regular appearances in Melbs!

We also have another doco crew interested in us for later on in the year, but I won’t say anything more about that in case it doesn’t happen ;)

Corset Squee!

July 25th, 2008
corset-squee

So, we’ve gradually been sliding into stocking corsets @ The Lockworks. We started with Asylum7, steampunky style, then as of a bit less than a month ago Dolly Q came on board, and we were amazed at the response to her awesome stuff. So much so that I realised there’s almost no way she’d be able to keep up with the demand, so I started looking into other suppliers to supplement her fantastic work. Bear in mind, I haven’t bought a corset in years, 10 years to be exact, as I’d started making corsets when I started Wildilocks - but the hair rapidly took over and there wasn’t the time any more.

The one and only corset I’ve bought was from Axfords in Brighton - I went to their factory and bought it in person, and I still have it - still in very good nick, too! This is a company that has been in business since 1880. Their styles are simple, classic and genuinely period.

So, we got our first Axfords order today. Colour me filled with squee when I tried this delightful underbust on:

cass_01.jpg

I love the look of this corset - it’s incredibly comfortable and feels *so* much better than the usual hourglass overbust which is pretty much all I have otherwise! I am so glad I’ve lost enough weight to feel comfy in a corset again too - not that I had to lose weight, but because of the health stuff, everything felt very uncomfortable belly-wards.

*heart heart squee* I shall be wearing it out tomorrow night to Black Widows. Who shall be joining us? [other than miss [info]alibaster who shall be with us for a brief 2 day sojourn, and [info]neonfaerie who I believe are already planning to head down? :)

More pics under the cut!
